CROATIA - RIJEKA & OPATIJA

Croatia - we had a craving for the beach and also we wanted to see some of the Adriatic coastline so we bypassed Zagreb and made the epic train journey of 12 hours and 3 train changes to Rijeka Croatia and boy was it worth it.  We stayed in the bottom flat at Sergio and Natalia's who were absolutely lovely felt like we were at home.  Croats are lovely people, very friendly.  Rijeka is a port city of Croatia, quite modern in some ways to the rest of Croatia which is still traditional in its ways particularly in the rural and mountain towns we passed through.  Sergio spoke to us of their frustration at progressing the country forward as people are still repressed.  Also I have to mention that the beaches here are the cleanest internationally, the water is crystal clear and very clean!

View from train coming into Rijeka

Crystal clear water, in this photo the water is very deep.

Football pitch, there was a game on the night we arrived and the Rijeka team won, so they let off fireworks! an idea I might take back to the club for each time our firsts win a home game :)

Opatija - just lovely the riveria of Croatia
